Going back to tax rates, looking at the state and not the city, PA’s flat tax falls well under that of the other states I listed in my post. I am familiar with the city but not so much with the state. Is it common that other jurisdictions impose their own local wage taxes? If not, it would seem like PA would be a real tax bargain when compared with our neighbors.

(I’ve kinda glombed onto you as if you’re some sort of tax specialist, so I’ll understand if you direct me back to google.)
Yeah-many cities or townships in PA have a wage tax, but most are not very high. Philly is most likely the outlier there-maybe Pittsburgh somewhat close behind. I guess everyone seems to think they pay more than their fair share in taxes though lol but now that I think more into it considering all aspects PA is still a pretty good bargain compared to neighbors in the Northeast, especially factoring in col.

I know alot of people are migrating from NJ to PA, and a BIG driver is property taxes. PA property taxes are not the lowest, but I cannot believe what they pay in NJ property taxes, it is frightening.
Yeah definitely-NJ property taxes are unbelievable. Some suburbs in PA are pretty high as well (Cheltenham township comes to mind) but nothing like NJ.

The United States is a representative democracy, a.k.a. a republic.

The vast majority of towns in this state has an income tax of at least 1%. Which is counterproductive since the majority of towns in this country have no income tax. Even most of the major cities.

Migrants from Jersey, Maryland and NY figure that an extra 1% is irrelevant due to "freedoms", property taxes and "affordable" rents--heh, western MontCo/eastern Berks ain't that much of a bargain, especially if you're working class. I'm having problems out here finding a studio for under $700 or a 1BR for under $800/month with h/HW included, unless it's in da hood.

Looking deeper into the census report, it seems that PA may be losing a seat in Congress in 2020 anyhow. So being 5th largest state probably won't be anything to be happy about eventually.

So., were there any stats for the city's growth? Pittsburgh's or Philly's?

Didn't have time to look any of that up. I know Philadelphia is continuing to see population growth but I have no idea about Pittsburgh.

How do you know exactly? Is it like your speculation about Bloomingdale's considering investing in 11th and Market, for instance? A notion I find almost 100% laughable.

It's based on the Pew report. The Census has not done an estimate for Philadelphia for 2017. And I belong to a development thread full of many real estate professionals and there is much more positive speculation from real estate professionals here in Philadelphia that Bloomingdales will be moving to FOD or to the anticipated site that PRIET owns across from FOD. I also never said it was 100% happening. Just I have a big hunch it is
