During the Open Streets thing instead of patrolling along 3rd street on bikes, they hung out doing nothing at 3rd and Callowhill. And you absolutely can not say anything to them directly. Well, I can't. Maybe you can.
I'm a white male, but I haven't always gotten along with the police. I would avoid talking to them directly unless I really had to.

Cannot get a clear read on 47th and Walnut. Depending on the source, either looks okay or is borderline, but not "red." Is it considered Cedar Park? Thoughts?

In general, the police, but especially the Philly police are NOT your friends. I give them no reason to speak to me, nor even acknowledge me.

Cedar Park is the Baltimore Ave to Chester Ave area from 43rd street to 49th street. 47th and Walnut is not bad but it's never been one of my favorite areas.

Thanks. I was in that neighborhood on my recent trip and it looked okay. Probably wouldn't wander around at night, but there aren't many hoods I would do that in anyway. Also new construction seems to be going up nearby, so maybe milk and bread type stores will start popping up closer, too. It's right on the bus line which is important since I will be ditching the car.

No, it's not Cedar Park. It's Walnut Hill, I believe.

For me it would be fine. Going west of 48th might be problematic for you being a newcomer.

Thanks. I got off the bus at 47th and could sense the change past 45th. Just have to revive my old nyc radar skills.

Found this. Enormously helpful. Will definitely get involved if this works out!

That area is changing(and it was never bad, imo). One reason is (and I truly hate bringing race into it), I see young white and asian people using the 46th St EL stop a lot now. I even saw a couple using the 52nd St station last week.
