My husband is being relocated to NAS willow grove in horsham Pa. We currently live in Texas and will not be able to go and see the area before we move. We are trying to stay as close as possible for as cheap as possible but it needs to be a quality neighborhood as we have 2 children. We've heard horror stories about going anywhere south of the base, but just wanted to get some other opinions. Thank you!

P.S. he will travel farther up to 25 miles away for a good neighborhood and cheaper pricing.

I don't know who is telling you horror stories about anywhere south of the base but they are wrong.

It's hard to know what your idea of cheap is, but some areas in close proximity to the base that have good schools and have some more modestly priced housing are Hatboro (19040), Willow Grove (19090), Abington (19001), and Ambler (19002).

I live about 12 min away in Huntingdon Valley. I totally recommend it. HV is broken up within 3 townships, the closest being Upper Moreland which is where I live. I'm very happy with the schools. There is also Lower Moreland which is slightly further and Abington, which is the furthest from the base. All 3 are great. Also surrounding the base is Horsham, which is serviced by the Hatboro-Horsham SD, and that is good as well.

Sorry..our idea of cheap would be laughed at for up there...but what we can spend is a max of 1300 a month not including utilities for rent.

I recently moved to Hatboro (upper moreland twp) and we're really happy with the area. You may also want to look into Doylestown. Not too far of a drive to the airbase. North on 611 15-20 minutes. (if that)

good luck to you!

Nothing is truly "bad" in any of the immediate several miles surrounding Willow Grove NAS. Everyone has given great suggestions. You may not necessarily find shiny new homes to choose from but you should find good quality... although I'm not sure what $1300/month would get.

Tone has a good point, in relation to renting, a two bedroom usually runs around $1100 (house for rent), apartments may run slightly cheaper but you obviously have less space.
I have the exception to the rule, we rent a 6 bed house on a farm for $1500, 2 car garage also. Of course, we pay all of our utilities too.
Rental rates are still high around here.
