Black Sheep (on 17th St, I believe) and The Bards (Walnut St.) are excellent Irish Pubs, better than the ones previously mentioned IMO. I wouldn't label McGlinchey's an "Irish Bar". Dive bar is more like it.

I recommend you stay in center city. The subway runs directly from CC to the stadium complex. A token is $1.50.

Rooms at the Latham in Rittenhouse Sq go for $140. If you search the net you can probably find something cheaper.

There are some good bars in CC. I would checkout McGillians. It is on Druery just off of Broad around Chestnut. It is a little tough to find since it is in an alley but it is a good pub. It is cheap and has good bar food.

If you are here around St Patty's day then head to University City. There are some good bars and more important there are college s. The New Deck, Oharas Fish House, Blarney Stone, and Cavanaughs.

I don't recommend cheese steaks. They are good but there is better sandwiches. My top choices are a Nick's Roastbeef, Primo's Italian Hoagie, and DiNics Roast Pork. The must go to place for lunch is Reading Terminal Market in center city.

Broad Street Line (Orange Line) will take you right to Lincoln Financial Field. Fado, Moriarty's, Irish Pub, Paddy Whacks on South Street, McGillins is good too- $5 pitchers of beer on Mondays. Old City has a million bars/clubs. Just walk around 2nd and Market to 3rd and Chestnut and walk in any bar.

No offense to you, OP, but you want to go to Geno's. The sandwich isn't bad, but it's mainly there for the experience. The huge mural of Italian Americans, the lines of hungry drunk people, the bright lights, all the pictures of celebs, the mean people at the counter..

Geno's is at 9th and Passyunk. You take the subway south, get off on Ellsworth, and walk down to 9th, and turn right. You'll see this:

The difference between Geno's and the best steak places is honestly not very appreciable for people out of the area. The people who go to some hole in the wall in Fishtown to get a steak go there because they eat it all the time, and become "cheesesteak aficionados." The best cheesesteak is also a subjective thing. Some people look for 18 pounds of cow on a roll. Some people look for that disgusting cheese whiz, or even some kind of special bread, or onions chopped a certain way.

The two areas with the most nightlife are
1. Old City between Market and Walnut Sts along 2nd, 3rd and 4th Streets. I don't know too much about what goes on there except it seems that hip hop culture has recently overtaken the fraternity crowd.

2. West of Broad St between Broad and 20th and Chestnut and Walnut including a cluster around 19th and Chestnut. Also most of the hotels have piano bars or similer. East of Broad is the "gayborhood" with nightlife appropriate to that culture. South 13th St between Walnut and Locust and vacinity is the place to buy drugs or pros.

I would look for a hotel within a block or two of Broad St (which should be 14th St)
