Why do people want to be famous?

I believe it is to expand our existence. I know I'd love to be famous. The more people you know, or that know you, the bigger your conscience is.

We each have different representations of each other inside each other's minds. So who I am to ME is just as important as who I am to YOU. This is why it hurts so much to be rejected or disliked. I've said this a lot, that we exist in each other. You and I rely upon each other to exist. After all, all we really are, are neural configurations inside each other's minds. Certain maps of specific brain circuitries and connections. Therefore who I am physically, such as my bicep, or my wrist, is not really 'me'.

The concept of fame is really about planting your ego in other people's minds. It's about expanding your being, so you continue to exist in other people. To exist in as many brains as possible.

I'd want to be famous(for a good reason only) because I want to be accepted , liked and people to actually care about my existence. Mostly to fill a void in me

Essentially, if I am alone in my room right now, with no one in my presence, do I exist? Do I exist in this current moment? If there is no one thinking about me, if I am not presently in someone elses mind, or work of mine is not being read, or shared

Oh, a solipsist... You have wrong understanding of what YOU are, resulting in following all kinds of ideas, including desire for fame.
You are what is called a "laborer". Laborer is a human type, that exists to satisfy his or her senses. Fame, as aspect of vanity, is one of means to provide that sensual pleasure.
Where desire for pleasure came from, you can find for yourself, should you truly concentrate on that goal. It is sexual in origin, but then you need to learn about origin of sexes, and what true sex is, as in gender.
Please, do not call on me here to converse on this topic. Took me 42 years of existence to realization.
Keep searching, and it will be given onto you.

Last thing I'd ever want to be is famous-I'm a private person who finds scrutiny (the interest of strangers) a threat rather than a thrill.
I don't consider fame a means to "immortality", eventually everyone who knew me will be dead (as will I).
I do value being known (and knowing) a few trusted folks, and being thought well of by them.
But I don't worry about what will transpire after I cease to be...once I'm permanently absent, I'll no longer have a stake in things (incl. my reputation/"legacy").

I do not want to be famous. I just want to change the world and I don't particularly care if I get credit for it or not, as long as I did it.

i don't want to be famous. you lose your privacy and that means you lose your freedom. i understand life as a momentary existence and you should search for pleasure as much as you can. when you die, everything is meaningless so who cares if was once famous or accepted by others by pleasing them in how i should act and think? i can't imagine life with cameras on me daily where i can't have sex with any girl i like or worry about how i have to dress today or what i can eat. it's a self-made prison.

this varies for many ppl. some want acceptance by others or they find that pleasure in being famous. i find it in endorphins resulting from exercising, having great sex every day, as well as sleeping well, and enjoying all "personal and not shared" pleasures of the flesh. i am not talking about drugs because that will kill me faster. i am talking about private pleasures where no one else need be there (except for the sex part unless i am using porn for that day)

What was the name of the movie, about two competing stage magicians? With whoever plays Wolverine and Batman? Sorry, not good memory for .. ahh, Christian Bail and the other guy.

If you saw it, remember, how they came up with a magician look alike? And the original one is standing underneath the stage, listening to applause, trying to "pasture" on it - and then great disappointment comes upon him, as he's not facing the public? He can not "drink directly" from the awe, coming from them?
That real well explains, why people want to be famous. It's sort of a narcotic, directly feeding one's ego. Many will give MUCH to have continuous supply of THAT. JUst look at the aging Hollywood and rock stars.. Or Mr. Jackson.. It's loud and clear answer.
