I do love eating crawfish, and as I wander along the urban canals on my walks in Chandler I see them down there near the edges of rocks, and I know for every one I can see at a quick glance there are a dozen more laying low.

So in theory (local pollution of people dumping shopping carts etc. into 'em aside) these canals don't contain anything toxic right? Would it be safe to go string + hot dog on these guys to get a bucketful to eat? I'm not worried about the natural waste conditions in the water as I'm pretty sure most crawfish I eat were farmed anyway so they were probably living in their own crowded waste-muck. These would be free range.

Thoughts appreciated.

Cant be too toxic I see people fishing in the canal by my house all the time. I would never do it, but to each their own.

That's what I'm thinking, the canals are part of the same system of lakes people fish from and swim in.

Obviously there are additional environmental influences in urban areas but I it isn't like there is a chemical factory dumping sludge into 'em.

Man, I'd love to have some fresh boiled crawfish right about now. That's my only real gripe about AZ -- no crawfish!

wat?? I was just at Lee Lee's on Sunday! I think it's out of season right now isn't it? Spring time is usually when it picks up. Do you know if the Cajun Seafood Corner serves non-frozen boild crawfish? If so, what's the price per lb?

Yeah it is out of season now, but when in season they are in a gray bin right between the glass fish tanks and the seafood counter. They have tongs and paper bags. Sometimes it is blue crabs, sometimes crawfish.

Cajun I recall a thing on their menu saying they serve previously frozen out of season, fresh in season. I don't recall the cost, probably too much.

Lee Lee's had live ones at their store in Peoria about a month. Don't know about now though.
