I was driving around Encanto Park area, right around north 15th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard and noticing all the diverse architecture in the different neighborhoods. All of it looks older like early or mid 20th century. My question is how safe are these neighborhoods? Being inner-city and west of Central are there many problems with crime?

Encanto-Palmcroft Historic District, which is bordered by 15th Ave, McDowell, 7th Ave, and Encanto Blvd is a great neighborhood with homes primarily ranging in the $500,000 - $2,000,000 range (even in this economy).

Farther east is Willo District, also a historic area with beautiful well kept homes along mature tree-lined streets.

You have bought into the "everything west of Central has higher crime" mantra. Not true. I don't even use the term "inner city" here. The areas around Encanto are mostly quite nice, actually, smaller houses over on the 15th Ave side, larger ones further east. I don't think crime is any more of an issue there than it is in many "east of Central" areas.

The maids have maids in this area. I had a friend who lived there and wasn't real happy with the area. The evil doers would hang out in the alleys. Many years ago a woman who lived on 7th. Ave came home from her hair-do appointment and was murdered by someone who was in her alley access garage. My friend's home backed up to that house and I believe was on Palmcroft Northeast. These homes are mansions.

Encanto Park is basically Phoenix's version of Central Park ... except it's not located downtown or even in the Central Corridor area. However, the greenery and lush vegetation give a sense of a true sizeable urban park. Incidentally, it is officially 75 years old as of last November. Here are some links:

The neighborhoods surrounding it are historic districts because of their age, and because they are so well preserved. As was previously mentioned, the most notable neighborhoods are Willo & Palmcroft ... but there are a few others such as Del Norte, F.Q. Story, Encanto Vista, and Encanto Manor.
