hey I'm thinking about moving to scottsdale from LA, and i was told I have to pay my own water, sewer, and trash and a 25$ flat fee for electricity. i'm looking for my first apartment, so I really have no idea how much this all should cost. I know a lot of it is about location and how much you use, but can anyone give me an estimate from experience how much this would cost in Scottsdale? for a 1 bedroom apartment, for 2 people. i'm hoping altogether with the 25$ electricity fee in will be about $70. no mention of gas anywhere, i don't know why. also a side question, what does sewer and trash mean exactly? When apartments list water, sewer, and trash.

How are you getting a $25 flat electricity bill? Are you sure on that? That's is extremely low.

yeah i'm sure. 2 different sized 1 bedroom apartments, the smaller more expensive ones (400 square feet) only have to pay 25$ for electricity and water, sewer, trash. the larger (600+ square feet) less expensive ones have to pay for full utilities.

I just cit a check for 62.76 for one month in Phoenix=water/trash/sewer/ and some add ons that kind of look like a phone bill. That is using less than the 4500 gallon minimum in the winter.

Water/trash/sewer are often included in condo rentals as the owner pays the HOA.

I would ask the apt management what a typical bill is for water/sewer/trash. It varies from municipality to municipality, but except for the water actually used, it's all just fees and taxes that are going to be the same for everyone. And, most people who don't have some combination of large house, large family, large yard, pool, get by cheaply on actual water use. If you are really only going to pay $25 flat for electricity year round in the apt you are talking about, you are going to do just fine-- I wouldn't think your bill would be substantially different than the above. I'm in Tempe, and it runs around 65-80, but I'm watering plants (no lawn) in summer. Two people in an apt, no washer dryer, no yard, should be on the low end of that range.

That is a very small space, indeed.

I usually say to take those apartment ratings with a grain of salt. And, I still say that. But, I'm reminded of that old saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" with respect to that electric/AC situation. In summer, that could present a real problem. ]I don't know what your budget is for rent, but it might pay to look around a little more.
