Hello,

Just curious: Across the street, a house has 3 college kids living out of a huge RV in their backyard. They said it would be only one month, but now it is going on three months and, by the way they are decorating around the RV, it appears it isn't going anywhere. The RV belongs to one of the college kids.

They aren't super noisy, but it is a bit of an eyesore and there are currently two houses on the block for sale. I'm just curious if there is some city ordinance against this type of thing.

Thanks!

It is probably not legal, because the property has to be zoned to allow it.

Since you say they have been there 3 months, they must have some hook-ups for elec, water and sewer/septic.

You need to check with your municipality to find out if this type of thing is legal and how long they may stay there.

If you are in an HOA, you should contact them too.

As rjrcm said, check with the HOA. For ordinances, you can google them, or call the city. They'll tell you.

Not legal. Where is the sewage going? Call your city council office.

I've had some friends use their rv's as guest quarters. Generally the guests need to come inside to use the facilities.
RV's with restrooms are also self contained, so if they are using the RV's restrooms the black and greywater tanks will hold it.

In Tempe, it's a no go as a "residential unit". I'd say three months continuous occupation goes beyond "guest quarters" especially if the ones living in the RV are enrolled in college.

At ASU, spring break is this week. But that's not the controlling factor. If they've been there 3 months, school attending or not, they are living there.
