Possible relocation to Phoenix and trying to decide b/t N. Scottsdale and Ocotillo. I checked on google maps but wanted to ask the experts what the commute would be to Biltmore Fashion Park area, both during rush hour and non-rush hour.

Thank you for your guidance!

Ocotillo sounds like a LONG trip from there, both in terms of miles and in inbound/outbound traffic. It's hard to talk about non-rush hour, as especially outbound in the PM, the rush hour seems at least three hours long. Coming from north Scottsdale (and you don't say how far north) coming down the 51 would be in traffic, but I think the outbound in the afternoon would be better than going to Ocotillo.

Crud--that wasn't what I wanted to hear! We really need a 4 bedroom house and good schools, I have a Vietnamese 4-yr. old who would benefit from having some faces that resembled hers at school, more house for $ etc. in Ocotillo, and we prob. shouldn't be spending >350. But, we hardly see my husband as it is so it might make more sense to be closer. What is the best guess as to how long the commute would take? Thanks for your response!

Why all the way out in Ocotillo? (Yes, Jacobsen is a good school, for one). You can get good schools in Tempe, closer in in Chandler than Ocotillo, etc., and still get some diversity and, I would think, a decent home price. I really can't give you a number on what the commute would take. I don't know what the map websites tell you. They have a hard time predicting traffic, all it takes is one accident along the way to blow up the time frame.

I was thinking the feeder schools for Hamilton High? Am I in the right area for that? I am eager for any other suggestions of schools/communities in Chandler that would be closer! Thank you so much!

eta: I am going to start a different thread re: schools because I have some specific questions...

I live a few miles north of Ocotillo and used to commute to the Biltmore area. Used to take me an hour a few years ago...each way. Not fun, but certainly doable if necessary.

Shoot. I don't think that is a good option. The kids would never see their dad. Thanks for the info.!

I live in the Ocotillo area, and drive to the Biltmore area about once a month to meet people for lunch. I always leave about 30 minutes before our scheduled meeting time, and I usually get there on time or maybe 5 minutes late. This is on a Saturday with no traffic. In rush hour, I would guess double that. Far North Scottsdale may not be any better, especially away from the Freeways, but around Cactus, Greenway or Bell/FLW wouldn't be a terrible commute.

Thanks asufan for the info. That doesn't sound too bad...my husband usually leaves for work around 7ish a.m. and for home around 7ish p.m. so I am thinking he would usually miss rush hour.

What about from the area in Scottsdale around Desert Mountain High School to Biltmore?

He will NOT miss rush hour at 7am. But his evening commute at 7pm will pretty much be after the rush hour.

Ocotillo to Az Biltmore area is a bad commute - I wouldnt do it (and I commuted way farther than most people in Phoenix are willing to do until I retired two years ago). North Scottsdale would be marginally better, but not much. Additionally, your budget will be stretched thin in Scottsdale.

I'd consider going to west Chandler, north Chandler, Tempe - or better yet, north or central Phoenix. I can't comment directly on the schools - no kids in my household. But all of those areas are diverse.

As always, the #1 best, most important advice is RENT before you buy. At least 6-12 months.
