I'm new to Scottsdale and I will soon be in need of a haircut and color retouch. I am 46 years old and have naturally dark hair but I highlight it with blond streaks. I am floored at the prices I am finding online for this type of service. Can anyone suggest a simple, no glitz required, hair salon that won't cost me the equivalent to a weeks worth of groceries?? Maybe even a small time salon with older women working in it. It doesn't necessarily have to be located in Scottsdale. I'm willing to drive 30 minutes for someone that is good!! If you are a woman, Can you hear the desperation in my voice.....LOL?????

Sue

I'm looking for the same thing in the far North Glendale area. Used to have a really great lady working at one of those economy places (Ten bucks!) who did an amazing job. But of course she moved to another area, and If I knew where, I'd happily travel to her.

I have paid $40/$50 for hair cuts in regular salons but I haven't ever been happy. What a waste of money, IMO. Not saying good stylists aren't worth it if you get a good cut, but haven't had that experience. They all seem to want to give you "the latest cut" not what is asked for. And I hate getting hair cut as much as going to the dentist or shopping for swimwear.

Somewhere around $130 for cut, color retouch, and partial highlights.

My salon would be within that price range. I've been going to Amy Sue for over five years. She used to be in Tempe, and then moved to Salon Amore in old town Gilbert. She specializes in color, is meticulous, and not at all flaky. The salon has clients of all ages and "coolness levels." Depending on where you live in Scottsdale, it may not be too far from you. I gladly drive 60 miles round trip to have her care for my hair!

Danny Ainge (former professional basketball player) used to go there. Maybe he still does. I did too, for that matter, but the gal that did my hair retired.

I had no idea. I just slavishly follow Amy Sue wherever she works. Let's hope she doesn't move any farther away from me. Sixty miles round trip is far enough. It's so hard to find someone who's the total package for hair.

Anyway, I think she's worth driving from Scottsdale for, but everyone has their own favorites, so the o/p will hopefully get lots of suggestions to choose from.

Suzi at Cameleon in south Scottsdale (Scottsdale Rd n of Oak) has been doing my hair for 11 years, and was my former hairdresser's hairdresser before that. She's talented, and a sweetheart, too.

I've resorted to going to hair schools for my color. Can't beat $50 for color and highlights. Only down side is that you sit there for at least 3 hours. Since they are students they take a long time but with the instructors watching them, I've never gotten a bad job done.

I like Aveda in Tempe and Brillare in Ahwatukee
