You really can't go wrong with any of the schools in the Tempe, Chandler, Kyrene, or Gilbert districts which are in the East Valley. But those will be a tad longer than your hoped for commute.

Maybe look closely at the Ahwatukee area, zip codes 85044, 85045 and 85048. All are in the Kyrene district and might be the best commute if you consider the East Valley. Paradise Valley and Madison districts always get great reviews too and could be closer.

Paradise Valley is a little bit more pricey to live but I hear the schools are fine there. I live about 15-20 miles from Phoenix, the schools are great here.

I second AZPam's school choices.

If you can afford Old Tempe 85284 the houses are wonderful, 200's and up. "Corona Village" block (3 levels I think) off McClintock is very nice.

Good luck with your move. I'm in Naperville, IL as well and we are moving in February. I can't wait. We work from home, so we can live just about anywhere. Found a rental in Scottsdale that we like in Sweetwater Ranch area.

North Phoenix is better to live in then downtown Phx. Also, Scottsdale is a really nice area as well. I am not sure about the schools out there, but I am sure Scottsdale has some of the best schools, along with Mesa and possible N. Phx. I hope this helps..
