I went there one night, the bbq tasted like it sat in a crock pot all day. it was unpleasant to say the least!

It's kind of funny, my wife and I were hanging around a bunch of pitmasters last night at the Surprise BBQ event (seriously, even a couple of them from "Pitmaster's Season One") and we were talking about local BBQ and I heard more than once that many of the area's BBQ restaurants are to quote "decidedly mediocre" at best and the feeling of some is that many are more concerned with mass production and cost than they are with quality.
I did mention Rudy's and was told by the Texas team that they are very good at Texas 'que.
Well I'm off to get ready to go back out to the event and eat up some killer BBQ and I'm sure some not so good as you can't always be on your "A" game.

We have Rudy's in ABQ. Meat is good, but the sauce is thin and sort of ketsupy. Not a fan of wonderbread being the only choice for a sandwich.

I thought Texas bbq had no sauce, just rub. Perhaps a weak sauce is offered for customers who desire sauce?

You're right, the sauce is at the table. But I remember having incredible BBQ in Amarillo that had plenty of sweet, smokey sauce on it. More of a fan of the Memphis-style, though.

Then that was not Texas style bbq but more Memphis style. Some people prefer the candy sweet Memphis style some NC and some TX or vinegar vs mustard vs tomato base and some (like me) like all of 'em as they're totally different from each other like Chinese food from different regions.
Done correctly they're ALL great!

I love me some Rudy's although I think some people will be disappointed with it because its not like the typical BBQ they might be used to, its definitely Texas style, I've had some great meals at Rudy's in the past.

If you all can't wait until April check this place out in the meantime. Best BBQ I've had out here.
