I'll be working in downtown Scottsdale and was looking for a small studio/1BR apt for under $700 ($600 would be ideal-don't want roommates though). The rent is pretty steep for apts near downtown and wanted to ask you guys if there are any safe areas and apt complexes you recommend I check out within 10-15 mi of downtown area. I don't mind driving 20-30mins to get to work if I can stay in a safe quiet neighborhood and in an apt with Washer&Dryer and decent amenities. Thank you.

Thanks. 1/1 at regents is close to $800, which is outside my budget. I'll look into other Mark Taylor apts.

I would look into condos to rent as well. I rented a condo in 2010 at 8500 e. Indian school for $700/month. It was a 1 bedroom, about 700 sq ft and completely redone as it was a condo conversion in 2007 (new tile, granite countertops, double closets in bedroom). It still felt apartment-y but by being condos had more of a stable feel. Also check out Sunscape at Hayden and Indian School. It's another situation where they are technically condos but converted too late in the boom so lots of rentals available.

I was able to negotiate from $750 to $700 as the condo was vacant and the owner just wanted someone in there.
