The border is a long way from the Valley of the Sun. Gangs are there though. And there is a fair amount of drug running through and in the Valley.

Neither gangs nor drug running are likely to affect you in Gold Canyon or STV. The national media has done a very good job of overblowing the situation on both those issues as they affect those who are not involved in either activity.

Phoenix is 180 miles from the border so I wouldn't call it close.

Default Thanks for the info.

It is soo much better to speak with current residents, between disgruntled former residents and the National media they can really sway a persons decision. Guys/gals keep me posted with any new information, I have already checked out the areas you mentioned and am starting to like what I see. Keep those replies coming... thanks again have a great day

We haven't seen any activity locally .... STV is a pretty quiet area and off the beaten path. You get the typical issue of neighborhood kids causing some trouble, but you see that everywhere.

I've lived in Las Vegas, Austin, and Albuquerque in recent years. The 'non american citizen' population in STV and other Phoenix suburbs that we've visited is MUCH lower than you'd expect!

I never said Gold Canyon. That is one of the areas that will see few illegal’s passing through unless they are pushing a lawn mower. The poster was commenting on the commute through the valley. San Tan has issues from time to time (My Grand Daughter lives there). I don't know that $175,000 will get much in the east end of the Valley at Gold Canyon. Apache Junction and Mesa, or the Coolidge Florence area, still has newer homes for under $80,000. Unless you are Gang Banging or doing Drugs you won't really see the gang activity anywhere in the valley. Now drug running if you are on the illegal trail or along any freeway, it will be there.
