The only reason I buy the Az Repub is for the coupons, the only news I trust is online, on the radio and some shows on Fox News. The days of fair and balanced news from print media and the mainstream tv channels are gone and will never return, sadly they will only get worse.

There is no "fair and balanced" news if you are listening online, to the radio, and Fox News. The most "fair and balanced" news program in town is the Mac and Gaydos radio show on KTAR.

Agreed but most people just go online and read up on the news through blogs and comment pieces. This is why single source news is dying. People would rather read blogs and opinion pieces about events from the general public. No need for a reporter anymore when you have some guy with his cel phone and a blog spot. lol

Our society needs credible new agencies(Reuters, AP) and news outlets(New York Times, CNN) that can be held accountable for mistakes and inaccuracies. A hallmark of quality journalism is reporting without personal bias, just the facts. A good online news outlet specific to Arizona competing with AZ Central would not only be another source of stories that AZ Central might omit or underreport, but it might just encourage them to provide better coverage beyond stories about Southwest living room decor or how to manage your hair on humid days with only 5 or 6 local or state news stories thrown in.

"Guy with a phone and a blog" reporting can capture some good footage but they usually don't tell an in depth story, be self-critical, or present all sides' perspectives. It also leads to quackery. I could take my phone and some of my sons toys and shoot some pics, use my computer to alter the shots, and make a site with a"news story" about an alien invasion and probably someone somewhere will buy it.

I guess you think Bob Beckel and Alan Colmes are right wing Fox News wackos, but in reality they are about as far left as you can get.

I also would guess you think ABC, NBC. CBS, Huff Post, CNN are fair and balanced. ROFLOL
You probably think (thrill up my leg over Obama) Chris mathews is fair and balanced. ROFLOL

Liberals lack facts to back up what they say they rely on feelings and emotional responses as proof.

Makes perfect sense.

The Republic is very liberal on some issues, moderate to slightly conservative on others. When they go liberal on an issue, it's pretty blatant and turns people off, even if some of their other coverage is more middle of the road. Plus of course they simply don't do a good job of reporting, at least in some cases. If you are ever involved in something they report, you'll realize how much they get wrong in stories. They'd be struggling anyway, given the trend for newspapers, but their tilting to the left in a significant way at times exacerbates this problem for them.

On the East Valley Tribune, we live in the east valley and it shows up for free a few times a week in our driveway. It's no great shakes either, but for what they do put out, I'll tend to take it over the Republic's coverage.

For an online local source, I have dumped Azcentral as it is now charging a fee I believe. Also, it had bad links that did not work, was just very amateurish. Adding the fee made that decision easy for me. KTAR, azfamily.com., any of the local news affiliates have online sites.
In terms of the Az Republic not having a competitor for print media, I surely would not want to start up a print media outlet. That is a dying breed. Starting a competitor would most likely result in two dying papers....We have other local sources for news online...I have been using KTAR.com

AZCentral gives you 20 free stories a month. So if you check the news from two computers, that gives you 40 free stories. Use Chrome and IE and you should be able to double that number.
