Hey guys, I'm searching for my first apartment. I'm looking for something for $600 with all utilities included and walking distance to grocery shopping in a decent area. I don't know anyone out here in Phoenix so searching has been tough. I want to find a clean place without pest problems or paper thin walls where noise travels easy (you know the kind).

Do you know any nice apartment complexes that would be a fit for me?

I'm currently renting a room in a condo and want to get my own place.

Well where do you work at? There are obviously a million apartments so more info is needed to narrow it down....

If you want a place with all utilities included for $600 that will be tough. There are some apartments in the $500 a month range, without utilities but they are in marginal areas. Once you pay utilities and cable, you will be closer to $700 a month.

You may be better off with an extended stay apartment. Those involve no credit check or deposit. Plus you will have to pay deposits for utilities in a regular apartment and get furniture. The extended stay apartments are furnished.

Check Ocotillo Village at 42nd Street and Mc Dowell. That is an extended stay place that is walkable and busable to a lot of places.

Budget Suites at 7th Ave and Indian School is good too. Grocery store next door, and 6 blocks from the light rail. But you are going to have to get closer to $750 a month including cable and all utilities. This is probably the best location. These are one bedrooms.

Legacy Suites at 83rd Ave and Mc Dowell or 91st Ave South of Mc Dowell. But not a lot walkable from there. This may work for you though, as they have studios.

What area are you working in? I take it you have no transportation.

If you know of some apartments that meet my criteria let's start with those. I thought I already narrowed it down quite a bit.

Keeping in mind that Maricopa County is the size of the entire state of Connecticut. you don't really narrow it down much by saying "Phoenix." When most newcomers posting on C-D use that term, they mean the entire metropolitan area, which encompasses Scottsdale, North Scottsdale,Tempe, Chandler, Mesa, Glendale, and Gilbert. Do you mean the actual City of Phoenix (one of your more expensive choices and least likely to get you within walking distance of a supermarket)? What neighborhood are you in now? Does it fit your definition of "safe" and do you want to stay there?

Most people here very sensibly try to steer newcomers as close as possible to the area where they will be employed. It doesn't make a lot of sense to sign a year's lease and then get a job offer that is 70 miles away, so Goober13's recommendation of a short-term rental is sensible.

I'm in the actual city of Phoenix. I'd like to find something within that vicinity.

Can you narrow it down to a zip code or two? The city of Phoenix is huge.

I'm a couple miles from GCU, willing to relocate probably up to a 10 mile radius from there anywhere in phoenix. If you can find something that matches that and my criteria in my first post that's golden.

You might want to look along 19th Avenue where they are doing the light rail construction right now. The construction zone is from Bethany Home up to Dunlap and a lot of the apartments along the route have deals going on. It will be a pain in the rear to drive along 19th Avenue for a couple more years, so the deals may continue for a while. Plus if you really intend to walk to the grocery store, there are grocery stores every mile along 19th Avenue.
