AzCentral.com reports two key factors in Phoenix's allure are its low cost of living and generally higher starting salaries. Kiplinger also noted the city is a top spot for job growth, always a plus for newly minted graduates.

Phoenix was ahead of San Francisco (No. 9) and Dallas (No. 10) on the list. Boulder, Colorado, was No. 1.

Phoenix is the 8th best city for new grads, according to Kiplinger

How is SLC desired so much? Why exactly is it such a draw, I just don't understand it.

I was referring more to Phoenix/some people bashing it no matter what.

Not sure on SLC. Jobs must be there. I heard the skiing is excellent if one is into that sort of recreation.

Sorry I didn't mean to quote you, I was just at a loss with SLC on the list. Maybe people get lost in the mountains and see the city thinking its LA.

Guess it depends what your major is in.
After living in the phoenix area almost 6 months all i can say is it's a nice clean city with pretty good weather. Not a city i'd choose if i was looking to establish myself in a high-paying field, the good jobs really aren't there like they are in dc area where i live.

I agree that it can depends on your field but just because you or someone else was unable to find a job here, it doesn't mean others shared your experience. Nonetheless, I agree that Phoenix has a long way to go with certain white collar fields like consulting and finance. We really do need to be more aggressive about luring those jobs particularly if we want our future generations to remain in the Valley.

Of course, you will be facing a lot more competition in the D.C. area as well. People assume that if they move to a larger urban area that they will suddenly receive a plethora of job offers and they forget to account for the increased competition.

Or we will hear from the young graduates who can't get jobs here and somehow the fault is always with Phoenix instead of their resumes.

No negative reactions except I don't really believe the cost of living is all that low when car expenses and summertime utility bills are factored in.
