Ugh! I would never recommend that someone do this. I drove from South Chandler to North Scottsdale for 4 years until I just could not do it anymore. You say it's an hour at the most, but are you sure about that? I would try driving it during rush hour (or whenever your normal drive time would be) a couple of times and see how long it really takes and what the traffic is like. You will get a better feel for it that way.

The only good thing about that drive would be that the sun would be at your back, both ways. I really hate driving into the sun.

HAHA
Really???
My hubby drove from west Phoenix to Maricopa and back for 39 1/2 years. It was an hour each way. That, however, could be accomplished by taking 51st Avenue through the mountains. Only rarely did he take the freeway.
Traffic in that part of the East Valley is bad enough as it is. Would you really want to sit in a traffic jam (and in the heat) so often?
Now I know that there are some people who work in LA and drive 90 minutes-2 hours to get down to their homes in Orange County, but I think that is nuts.
