No worries, it is a very nice area. He's joking because of some of the ridiculous comments in this thread.

Phoenix proper has a massive area totaling 516 square miles. So for me at least, it depends on what portion of Phoenix that you are referring to. For instance a portion could be similar to the 33 square miles of Maryvale or it can be as safe as the 29 square miles of Cave Creek. Putting it another way, there are incredibly safe areas inside of the 516 square miles of Phoenix and some not-so-good areas. Same-same with Glendale. The Arrowhead area is the poster child of a safe neighborhood. There are also some areas in Glendale that are run down.

As was noted, in a large metro area like Phoenix, many of the east west and north south major arterial streets go through all sorts of neighborhoods, from very good ones to not so good ones. It's difficult to characterize the entire length of one of those such streets as "dangerous".

If you look at the crime map most of the problems are close to Maryvale. If Phoenix, and Glendale would get off their duff's and do something about the crime in those areas both city's would do much better. If they had more community police programs in the area maybe the people living there would trust them more.

Observer53,

In regards to 27th ave, I am specifically speaking about the stretch that begins at w lower buckeye rd and ends at almost dunlap ave. Rico stated his sister lives on 27th and carefree hwy, however that 27th ave is a tiny 2 block side street. I am referring to the main drag.

It is a fact that 27th ave is right by I-17, which is a hotbed for criminal activity.

It is not the best area by any means, but to describe miles and miles of any one main street as "dangerous" is a bit excessive, IMO, as it will imply to some people that it's not safe to drive through or walk down any stretch of it in broad daylight.

A lot of Indian School Rd., the Avenues, & Thomas areas.....

There's so many bad parts I don't remember the street names...But most of your Avenues are pretty bad.
