I agree about Paradise Valley. That's one of the wealthiest communities in the nation, but it's because of all the multi million dollar mansions, especially those along the foothills (or in the hills) of Camelback Mountain. You have to be super wealthy to live there ... basically having the income level of a pro athlete, or a top notch doctor or lawyer. Paradise Valley is generally not a community for a 25 year old single person.

So I'm looking to move. I really love West 6th apartments in Tempe but it's all college students and it would be too far of a commute. I think South Scottsdale is the perfect compromise.

I'm very successful for my age and could afford a place like Optima Camelview, but from my experience the more expensive the place, the older the crowd. I'm looking for a NICE 2 bedroom apartment($1,400-$2,200) near old town that also has a younger business professional crowd. Any advice?

I'd be doing the happy dance! Where do your coworkers work? You definitely have the budget for a good fit. I don't live in senior housing but you can often hear the clock tick unless the guy upstairs is home. He does not sit on his butt!

Most of the young professionals live in Old Town Scottsdale and have purchased condos in the region or the Biltmore area (24th and Camelback). Young people also rent homes and live near Arcadia. You are right, North Scottsdale is for older couples or young families. It's definitely not a place for young single people. North Tempe (ASU area) is for college students although when the State Farm project is finalized, more young professionals will live on Town lake, that is sorta the plan anyway.

Remember that Biltmore is an exclusive area that is located north of 24th Street & Camelback, and basically takes up the section between 24th Street on the west, 32nd Street on the east, and Lincoln/Glendale Avenue on the north. I know this because I live right across the street from one of the "entrances" to the Biltmore. It's often confused with Camelback East, which includes the 24th Street/Camelback intersection. Much of Camelback East can be described affectionately as the Biltmore slums.

I think if & when south Scottsdale starts revitalizing, it will become more friendly for younger professionals, and less of an older working class area. Its proximity to Old Town is an ideal location. Also, there are some parts of north Scottsdale that attract a somewhat younger crowd ... specifically Kierland and the area around Scottsdale Quarter.
