I saw one Panera Bread under construction in South Chandler, NE corner of Arizona Avenue & Ocotillo .... I didn't see it the news anywhere that Panera is coming to Phoenix Metro, any ideas ?

That's the same as Paradise Bakery. Maybe they are going to eventually all switch over to the Panera name.

I am surprised to see any Panera Breads in the Phoenix area since they merged with Paradise Bakery. In this area Paradise Bakery has always been the "Panera Bread" for that company. It must be a new initiative by this company.

I will say I'm glad to see this location. I go to Paradise Bakery often and the one on Alma School/Queen Creek is a pain as it shares a parking lot with Grimald's, Pei Wei, Jersey Mikes, Starbucks, the Greek restaurant, etc. Every place there is busy and parking is tough.

They started out just purchasing a majority interest, (why beat them if you can afford to buy them, it seemed) then bought it all five years ago. New Paradise stores have opened since, under that name. The two have distinct but similar menus (at least the last I checked, I haven't been in a Panera for a few years, and that was in Florida). For some reason, they seem to intend to keep them separate, especially if they are now building Paneras here.

How different is Paradise than Panera?

I thought it was the same. Maybe slightly different. Coming from the Midwest where we had Panera, I've noticed no differences. I can get my Bacon Turkey Bravo at both.

They may have become more similar over time, which would make sense, except then why keep both names and keep opening stores in the same metro under both names?

I was disappointed when Panera recently dropped their roast beef in favor of steak sandwich.

They are opening one under the Panera name at Central and Thomas. They have closed the Paradise Bakery in the Collier Center and the employees are moving to the new location. It appears that any new restaurants will use the Panera name.
