Guess I was missing ceiling fans.

Just installed one in my home office room and wow what a difference (well duh, right? ). Even though the desktop thermometer still says 80º on it (about 5' behind my chair), I feel perfectly fine with the fan set on speed 2 (out of 4 speeds), cool even. Yesterday I ran the A/C for 30 minutes between 4:30 - 6:00 to be comfortable, today none at all.

Best part is that this fan uses 18.3 watts on speed 2. That literally comes out to $0.001/hour off-peak and $0.003/hour on-peak. Say I run the fan from 10am - 6pm everyday, all year long, that would be a cost of $7.30 for the WHOLE year. Pretty crazy. The low speed is half that.

So...how does this relate to the Phoenix forum? People moving here...BUY CEILING FANS!
You live in a brand new house and your temps are already hitting 80? Did they forget the insulation?
I have to open my doors and windows to get the temp to hit 72.

Yeah, it isn't making sense to me either...the hottest my house has got so far is 74 and that is today because we left the doors and windows open too long until about 1:30pm and let some of the heat from the outside in.

Our house has only been getting to about 73 during the days. We don't have trees or anything close to the house providing shade. Makes me wonder why his is getting so hot.

What is your guys' house at right now?

The main part of the house here is at 77º and the home office part is at 79º (though I have the fan on and it feels great right now, even a little chilly ). There's no TVs or anything going on in the main part, we've been in the home office for the past few hours doing some work.

Home office faces west and has a big window with no sun screen. As you can see, the sun is shining right in.

Area highlighted with orange lines in the home office part and actually has a separate AC unit from the rest of the house.

I'm in my upstairs office and it is 74.9 in here with the fan turned off. The downstairs is even cooler.

Oh, I see one problem...you have no window coverings. I have blinds on every window (even those little square windows like you have) and my west and southern windows also have sunscreens.

You need some window coverings...I have blinds on every window and also sunscreens on my west and south windows. I have NO sun beating into my house like you have in that picture.

I have a window covering...it's rolled up all the way in the picture. I like my outside view which is why I keep it open and why there's no sunscreen. The rest of the house is also the same with the same type of roll up shades and they stay open all the time pretty much except we close them at night.

Oh, well stop doing that and get some sunscreens on the west and southern windows. Your house won't be so hot.
