I don't know if there's extreme traffic congestion anywhere in the valley other than special events, malls around the holidays or due to traffic accidents. I run my business out of my house most of the time, but the 20% of the time I visit the employees in the office there's almost zero congestion in my area of Chandler. My wife commutes from Chandler to Tempe and it's not bad, she plans an extra 5 minutes or so in the winter when traffic is worse, but even then it's not too long.

As for everything in the East Valley costing more, that's not true. Real estate costs more for the most part, but it doesn't cost more for a gallon of milk at Fry's, or a hamburger from In-N-Out. Gas prices vary depending on cost of rent, but the difference is negligible. House prices being higher is not a big deal because if you buy in an area with more demand, you will more easily recoup your investment. As long as you're in a safe area with good schools, proximity to good jobs, shopping, dining and recreation, any side of the valley is fine.

Why would one willingly insert oneself into rush hour?

It’s not because it’s negative, it’s because you post nonsense that’s untrue. For the record, I don’t live in the east nor west valley and have no skin in the game either way.

Most people I know in Southwest Valley take Buckeye Road which almost evens out on time or even faster than the I-10, which really says something.

I forgot Van Buren goes that far West. I don't think any of them take that because it's still close enough to the freeway to take a lot of traffic.

Anyway, "Central Valley" AKA Phoenix proper between the I-17 and the 51 is the only way to go.

Lets see, you work for a living, and drive that way to get home from work; you are going to meet someone for dinner at that time; you have an appointment to get to, there are tons of reasons you might be in that quagmire at rush hour..

That’s a cute response and all, but it’s another fabrication. I try to deal in facts. If there’s anything specific that you’re questioning, I’ll be happy to review and if I posted bad info, I’ll edit it or at least own up to it.

Your comment about “extreme traffic congestion” and almost everything costing more in the east versus west is not based on any facts whatsoever. Five other posters have also contradicted that suggestion, so you’d think you’d get the sense that maybe it was a bit off. It’s best if we post factual information. “Extreme traffic congestion” of course is subjective, and it may seem that way to someone from a rural area, I suppose, but I don’t see Gilbert on any lists of the nation’s worst traffic problems.
