New job in Glendale - Where do I live with my family?

Hi All,

My new job is in the Westgate area of Glendale. I have a wife and 2 daughters. The kids are 14 and 9. Ive heard Glendale should be avoided. We will be looking to rent an apartment, and the areas that I've been advised on are Surprise and Goodyear. My wife doesn't drive, so ideally we would live somewhere where she can walk to the stores when I'm at work etc. Also somewhere safe for the kids. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Johnny.

The north end of Glendale and Peoria have what you're looking for and is an easy commute to the Westgate area.

There is nothing wrong with the newer parts of Glendale, including the parts right around Westgate. Goodyear is an option, but you can get closer with no problems. North part of Peoria, Litchfield Park, several choices.

I recommend Peoria, which is family-friendly. Litchfield Park also might be a good option. Surprise is nice but I don't think you'll like the commute heading to Westgate in the morning.

There is no heavy traffic to Westgate from Surprise, takes 15 minutes max from my house to Westgate. Down Litchfield or Dysart to Glendale to Westgate, that's it.

I also would recommend north Glendale and Peoria. Traffic on the 101 going north isn't too bad in the morning generally. Deer Valley and Peoria School Districts, along with lots of charter school options. For your wife, you might need right around Arrowhead mall.

No reason to go to Surprise or Goodyear unless budget is an issue in NW Glendale/Peoria. In my opinion North Peoria and Glendale are superior to both locations, and they are closer to work.

Northern Glendale would be the closest safe family-friendly location, especially Arrowhead area.

Thanks for all your answers guys, I really do appreciate it. Can any of you suggest any areas in the north of Glendale that are safe?

Thanks,
