My husband and I are thinking of moving to the Phoenix area, and we've experienced living in Riverside county off the 60 freeway towards Palm Springs for about 4 years. Anyway, we have had many days from June through November with very hot dry weather, and July, August and September well into the 100's, with some days reaching 115. Can anyone compare this heat to the Phoenix heat?? Is it much different?

I am just looking for people who have lived in both places who can give me the most accurate information.

We have quite a few friends here from southern California including Riverside county. From what they've shared with us, they say they like AZ much better than CA for loads of reasons (home prices, living expenses, schools, traffic, safety, people friendliness, etc). About the weather, they've said that they like it better here too because even when they've returned back to CA for a visit they look forward to getting back to AZ to get warm again (maybe that's only at a certain time of the year?)

We lived in Upland, CA for years. The air here is far more tolerable than S.CA air and the traffic here is tame in comparison. We left San Bernardino County for N. CA before coming to AZ due to the smog and crime. The heat combined with smog made it worse than dealing with the temperatures here. We are very happy.

I don't know exactly where you are, but here's a good summary of the weather in N. Phoenix (Anthem) near where we own property. It has monthly avg highs/lows, avg monthly precip, record highs/lows. You can run a similar report for your current location (zip) and compare the two.

Hope this helps!

Here's my two cents. The big difference in the heat isn't the actual high temps. It's the fact that the heat sets in much earlier in the year, and it doesn't cool down as much at night.

While you may think back to your time in CA and think, well, I've seen 110 before, and I survived. I thought the same.

Maybe so. But have you seen 110 in March? Have you seen 110 degrees at midnight? 1am? 2am?

I used to go to Riverside to cool off in the summer. My folks live by RCC.... and it gets hot there.

In August, you will see the temp dip below 90 in Riverside, even if you have to wait until 7-8 pm to see it.

In the Arizona desert, you'll have to wait until October. And even then, it will be after the sun goes down.

I notice you're in Oregon now. So am I. I recommend staying.
