It’s great that we can support a storied franchise like the Phoenix Suns. Plus nobody deserves $168million more than Robert Sarver. Great guy who knows what he’s doing.

Secret meetings and a vote just a few days after agreement. Our city council is out of control. Unfortunately, this is the shenanigans the fine people of Phoenix voted for.

The only thing about the Suns arena that needs renovating is the name: Talking Stick, which is probably the most hideous name for a sports/entertainment venue in the nation. I personally refer to it as "Talking S**t Arena". America West Arena was a great name in its time, and U.S. Airways Center wasn't bad either.

I don't know, here are a few names that give "most hideous" a run for the money:

KFC Yum! Center - Louisville, KY
Utz Arena - York, PA
TicketReturn.com Field - Myrtle Beach, SC
Fiserv Forum - Milwaukee, WI
Corn Crib - Normal, IL
Big Sandy Superstore Arena - Huntington, WV
Bojangles' Coliseum - Charlotte, NC
and the lovely Whataburger Field - Corpus Christie, TX

(A couple of international favorites of mine are the Hard Off Eco Stadium in Niigata, Japan and Bargain Booze Stadium in Northwich, UK)

You're right, those are horrible. The Louisville venue would be OK with just KFC in the title and not the "Yum" part. I'll put it another way: Phoenix could very well be the largest city in the nation with the most hideous venue name, which would be Talking Stick. Of course, Ak Chin and Gila River are nothing to brag about as far as arena names either.

Really???? from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talking_stick It bothers you?

"The talking stick, also called a speaker's staff, is an instrument of aboriginal democracy used by many tribes, especially those of indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast in North America. The talking stick may be passed around a group, as multiple people speak in turn, or used only by leaders as a symbol of their authority and right to speak in public."

Maybe the reason you don't like the name is subconscious in nature. i.e. deep down, you don't like a Native American organization with their name on the Suns?

I think the same thing every time the disdain for the name is voiced here. With the strong ties here to Native American people, I think the name is fitting and unique. I like it.

That's absolutely true and I have no regrets admitting it. The tribes can name their casinos & other structures anything they want, but a pro sports arena in a large city should have more of an appealing sounding title, which is why the name America West Arena went over well for a long time.

The strong ties you refer to would be mainly in historical reference. They make up only about 2% of the nation's population, and maybe 6% of Arizona's. If you've ever been on any reservations (besides just casinos, hotels, or a few shopping areas), you would see that they're very reminiscent of a third world nation: broken down shacks for houses, poverty, high unemployment, and a large percentage living on government assistance. Sorry, but I fail to see why we should honor, admire, or name anything after their rituals.

Give me a percentage of citizens that care about sports.......there is the answer.
Example: San Diego lost it's football team to ...........I can't recall.........I can't stand sports. They left and San Diego is no worse off. They couldn't sell out the stadium of 60K with a population of 2 million. Why? Less than 60K cared.
