LOL!!!!!! It's probably all three, better to stay in Zona and roast.

OP, kind of a silly question. Unless someone is flying in for a day for a meeting, who would do this? Unless someone just drove over the state line, people don't do this. How many people would even drive down from LA to San Diego, just for the day? Not many.

I've done it a couple of times to take care of work issues, wasn't fun.

But, to each their own. I agree that the Colorado River is doable as a day trip. That's probably as far as I'd go without an overnight. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, though, haha.
yeah, you must be doing it "wrong" mark....ha!

But I agree, to each their own. Especially for those who dislike driving for so long, I can certainly understand that it wouldn't be an enjoyable experience for them. Some of our friends look at us when we tell them we do the round trip drive in one 24 hour period once in a while(in one day?!?) but as you say, to each their own. Or even when we tell people we drive 50 minutes one way to certain restaurants in the valley and they think we are crazy. We all play the role in life of "I wouldn't do that!" though others find the same experience enjoyable. That's life. That's why I think while it's good to ask questions here/get opinions on various subjective topics, I believe it's best for everyone to make up their own mind in life and do what works for them/not just believe the consensus all the time...try it and see if it works for the individual. What works for each one of us is the "right" answer.

I once drove to San Diego for a baseball game, spent the night and came back the next day. People thought I was nuts doing that. I'm an ocean lover (prefer Newport Beach) but cannot imagine driving 12 hours in one day for a short time at the beach.

You could go to Lake Havasu - have beach time and technically be in Californa and return the same day??

Nothing like going from hot Phoenix to even hotter Lake Havasu I'm sure a lot of people do that though, if they're into jet skis, etc.

I don't know anyone who has taken a day trip to the coast of California, that seems insane to me. I've made the drive from Phoenix to LA and vise-Versa around 10 times last year...took me 5 hours each way, but by the end of it I was so tired, no way would I make that drive for only a day.

Years ago my Dad and I used to go to Palo Verde just south of Blythe. We timed it so we could eat supper at a local restaurant, which I think is gone, then fish along the river. Often near the Cibola Wildlife Refuge. We would then drive back early in the morning. Caught some nice catfish.

It's not for everyone but listening to the wildlife in the night is different. Don't forget insect repellent.
