Hi,

I"m a single, young retiree (62), no kids, and yes, I do look and act younger than 62 like everyone says. Most guess I'm 48-49. I'm very active...jog, weights, etc...all my hair, etc trim...lol.. I'm thinking about the Greater Phoenix area for retirement. I've been retired for a couple years already, l but in colder weather in a fairly small metro area in the Upper Great Plains.

I could do the snowbird thing, but as a single I'm thinking there would probably be more opportunities to really plug into single groups, as ell as other activities, I'm thinking maybe somewhere in the Greater Phoenix area would be nice to live full-time.

I just think I'm a little too lying yet for a "retirement" community so I was thinking somewhere a little more vibrant such as Temp or Old Scottsdale might be a good first choice to live. I"d go down next winter or earlier and just rent anyway and could always change locations.

Opinions about Tempe and Scottsdale (I say Old Scottsdale because it might be nice to be within walking distance of restaurants and bars, etc....

Oh, I should mention that I have a steady retirement income of take home of 7000 a month plus investments, etc..so that would be my approximate budget. (Take home, not gross)....

Thanks for opinions...

Old Town Scottsdale and Tempe (around ASU) are a much younger crowd. Think College to mid 30s. If I were you I would be looking at Downtown Phoenix if you are wanting walkable, uban city life or possibly 7th St around the McDowell area (new upcoming restaurant row) and then look up Events and Adventures (HUGE Singles group here). Tempe and Old Town would be doable and there is a TON of things to do...I dunno...depends on your comfort zone I guess.

And those that live in Tempe and Old Town are also mostly younger? Even Old Town? Or near it? Thanks for your response.

I would look into the McCormick Ranch area, which is close enough to Old Town to enjoy it regularly without having to worry about knuckleheads urinating on your patio on the weekend, or waking you up at 3 AM. McCormick Ranch is an all ages community but definitely has a retirement community vibe to it, lots of low maintenance type properties lived in by people who probably enjoy the same lifestyle as you.

Ah, that sound good. Thanks. And is it walkable to Old Town or at least a short taxi or Uber (in case I decide to drink)?

Short taxi/uber. Bike rideable to other restaurants/bars in the central Scottsdale area as well.

I too would suggest McCormick Ranch (85258), but I wouldn't necessarily cross off Old Town/Downtown Scottsdale. The condo buildings near the waterfront are expensive so they attract an older, more affluent resident. You'd have dining, biking, art shows, farmers market, etc. within walking distance.

The area around Hayden & Via De Ventura isn't too shabby for someone like the OP. There is plenty to do in that area. Plenty of places well within walking, power walking, or jogging distance. Plus, it's a very beautiful part of Scottsdale. I have many fond childhood memories in that area.
