Phoenix heat: 5 facts that prove it's worse than you think

If you think Phoenix is hotter now than it used to be, you're right.

This year, the summer months of June, July and August were the fifth-hottest in the city's history, dating to 1895, when daily highs and lows were first recorded.

The record heat shouldn't be a surprise: Six of the eight hottest summers in Phoenix have happened since 2000.

Oh boy, another heat thread! And one that isn't interesting or new. Everyone knows about the heat island effect and that as the city grows, so does it. /thread

That does it! Been considering the Valley for retirement, but now South Florida or the Gulf Coast looks way better!!

I'd take increased heat over summer long wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquakes.

Looks like I'm staying in the Southwest.

Might want to wait until after Irma, Jose and Katia pass by.

Amazing how people can't pick up on sarcasm. Um, you would think with one huge hurricane doing untold damage and another on the way, someone would pick up on it. Ahem.

You couldn't pay me enough to live in Florida or anywhere along the Gulf Coast. I'm not into bugs, humidity, or hurricanes. Plus, I can't understand half of them. My bad.

It's hotter because the urban heat island effect causes the nightly lows to be higherthen they were 20 years ago. This brings up the average, but the highs are not higher then 20 years ago. All you transplants coming here creating more urban sprawl means tearing up more desert for more concrete islands.
