I have heard over and over since being in Phoenix that Sun City West is VERY clannish, but only one actual resident who lived there has said that as everyone else is going on rumor or gossip. Does anyone know if this is really true or not?

Clannish? What do you mean by clannish.

My MIL lives in Sun City. The only thing she complains about are the crazy drivers in the Fry's parking lot. I'm also unsure about what you mean by "clannish." Help us out, please.

You probably meant 'cliquish'. Yes there are some clicks, especially in some of the clubs, but then there are a lot more friendly sociable people through out the community. It's not too much different than most other cities except they're older.

It's been a couple of years since I had to go to the Sun City area for work. Had one person tell me that the people in Sun City hate the people in Sun City West and the feeling is mutual. But both cities are united in their dislike of Sun City Grand. I'm sure it is different now, most of it was a generational thing. Sun City and Sun City West were full of the "Greatest Generation" and Sun City Grand is full of their kids.

I have done some work in the RV industry and had to travel to various retirement and/or RV parks for work. About the only clannish thing that I saw would be one RV park would be full of people from Minnesota and the park next door is full of Canadians. Does anyone know if the Sun Cities are like that?

Of all the years that I've been associated with the Sun Cities I've never heard of any hatred between the cities.
Yes there are some State clubs like the MN Club or the WI Club or the Ohio Club and many others, but they are not clannish or snobbish, just folks originally from the states they came from comparing memories and having potlucks or picnics usually annually.

I have two relatives, a husband and wife, who have lived in Sun City West for several years. They love it. They retired there from California.

Rather than a clique, I think it is decades of friendships formed and yes, some of the clubs can be a bit protective of their little groups of friends. I had pondered this recently and I do think it is just years of developing special friend groups. In time, we will do the same thing, but I will always remind myself that it not good to keep newcomers at a distance and to welcome them into the "group".....seek out new people who look a bit lost coming into the club and draw them in.

We have lived in many places and there will always be the Nasty Nancies in a group or club or social gathering and they can do some damage to your feelings. Just make your own paradise and try and enjoy where you are at the moment.

We have lived in SCW for 12 years. With nearly 30,000 people you have demographic/economic differences. There are over 100 clubs chartered by the Recreation Centers plus some other independent organizations. You can find friends with similar interests with just a little effort.

We are in our late 50's and seriously considering buying in SCW within the year. Can anybody give me a good reason as to why this would be a good or bad idea?
