Pay attention when making lefts, or pay the fine.

Scottsdale is the latest Valley city to use photo-enforcement cameras to catch drivers who make left turns on red lights.

Starting today, cameras at Shea Boulevard and 90th Street, a quarter-mile east of Loop 101 will flash drivers who are eastbound on Shea and make an illegal left turn north onto 90th Street.

Big Brother strikes again! Cameras to cite you for speeding or turning on a red ... all to generate revenue, I might add. Laws to ban smoking inside and outside. Bans on offshore drilling & ANWR exploration. Bailouts for the ignorant home buyers who took sub prime loans. Government is too involved in our lives. Our founding fathers would have a conniption if they knew how much this great nation has allowed itself to be taken over by robot cops, welfare, and massive books of rules & regulations.

Ordinarily, I don't have a problem with going after red light runners ... but I can already see issues with the cameras that will cite illegal left turns. When the inattentive idiot at the front of the line won't get moving when the left arrow turns green, this causes backup ... and the cars behind him that could have easily turned left on a green are already out in the intersection when the arrow turns red. In cases like this, making a left on a red can't always be avoided.

I say cite the inattentive drivers who sit still on left green arrows, as well as the slowies who take too long to turn left. They're the culprits! Oh, but the cameras aren't designed to nab the real menaces on the roads, are they? Just go after the speeders and the left turners who are unlucky enough to get stuck behind a slowpoke. After all, it's easy money for the city's coffers!

obviously the money isn't being applied to scottsdale roads. Most of north scottsdale's roads are torn up and have been in construction for a very long time.

Well, this goes without saying. Since I live in N. Scottsdale, I am acutely aware of the cameras. The beauty of Scottsdale is they have that left hanging green arrow, so there really is no excuse for making illegal left turns.

and Bob, I don't think people in scottsdale regularly do make illegal left turns...that is why this will leave alot of people scratching their bald thinning white haired heads!

I just thought of it but could this be the way the city is kinkda protecting themselves against the young people, i.e. clubbers, etc.???

Mayor Mary Manross (http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/council/mary_manross.asp - broken link)

I guess this explains it all...the great mayor Mary "not a woman but a" Manross! Woman mayor overstepping her boundaries and overdoing everything...
