I have driven into Pheonix before from Salt Lake, but I went the way coming to down I-15 through Vegas and Kingman and into Phoenix, but I wanted to know about going through Flagstaff. Will going that way slow me down considerably if I am trying to make good time? What are the benefits of going down that way?

From what I looked at on Google Maps, it is about the same amount of time, but I would rather know from people who have taken this route before.

We've traveled both routes. We prefer going through Flagstaff. We usually make better time going that way. Otherwise we don't really have a preference, the drive itself is about the same. (Long and boring if you ask the kids!).

Flagstaff, then 89 through Page, Kanab, the still on 89 to route 20 or something. This is cut over the Mountains to 15. You can go through Vegas, but that is longer more boring drive.

Just depends. Down through Vegas -lake havasu to I-10 and into Phoenix. Speed limits are a deciding factor as well.
you are not going to be able run 80+ going through page.

The U.S. Interstate Highway System vs. the roads in place prior to the US IHS.

Hmmm?

Why not do a loop on this trip (I-15 south to LV and then Hwy 93 from LV to Phx) and the return trip would be I-17 north to Flag and then 89 to Kanab and then backroads to I-70 on to I-15 and then home to SLC

I just did this drive 2 weeks ago-coming from Ptld,Or. !! I take 15 south to SR20 just south of Beaver,Ut. and that takes you to #89. South to Kanab and east to Page and south to Flagstaff!! Take #40 west to pick up #17 south into Phoenix! Takes about 8-81/2 hours!
