yeah 19th Ave & Camelback is a bit on the shady side. The thing with the Phoenix metro area (and I have lived here 29 years) is pockets. You can have a downright ghetto pocket a half a mile away from a decent pocket. Like when I lived in the Roosevelt district, I lived in a nice historic home near 5th Ave & Mcdowell but on 7th Avenue & McDowell the Circle K there is scary.

But Maryvale IMO is one of the worst crime infested areas in the valley. Sunnyslope not so much- just older homes and lower income families mostly and a few crackers and prostitutes walking around.

The eastern part of Sunnyslope (in the hill area) is some of the best mid century archetecture in the Phx metro area. What a gem that area is. Of, course not for everyone, but I think it is just fabulous. Wish I could get a deal on a nice 2 br 2 bath slump block home for under $300,000 with a KILLER VIEW! I think this is a great investment area. Even the areas under the hilly areas. Of course, one would have to have a bit of patience.

I found out that I'm going to be working near 75th and Bethany Home. Is this area considered Maryvale? I'm a little worried about the location, but I don't really have a choice since I must accept this job.

I live just north of Hatcher in an apt complex on N. 7th St. I guess it's on the 'edge' of Sunnyslope, but it's a stone's throw from the Sunnyslope Post Office and shopping on 7th. I can get to anywhere north (Bell Rd, Desert Ridge, etc.) very quickly and I can also get to downtown in a jiffy (shopping on east Camelback, airport, etc.).

I am glad I did NOT listen to people who warned me against Sunnyslope, although I must say I'm not familiar with the boundaries and side streets of the neighborhood. I suppose it extends further west than where I live (N. 7th and Mountain View, just north of Hatcher). My apt complex is pristine, remodeled, and quiet.

I teach at Sunnyslope High School, and, as I've posted on here before, I am amazed at how talented the students are and how meretoroius the teaching staff is (advanced degrees, experience, etc.) Just a step away are the beautiful houses on Central. We have great restaurants: Il Posto, Corbin's, Via Delosantos (great Mexican cafe), Karl's Bakery on Dunalp (fantastic German bakery), and more.

Yes, driving down 7th St at night will yield some random people moping around on the sidewalks and, no, I would not take a jog at midnight down some side roads . But come on! John C. Lincoln Hospital is here and there are some amazing hillside homes near the Slope Mountain off Mountain View and Central.

In short, really do a drive-by of Slope (heh, pun intended) to see if it works for you. As the apt maxium of Phoenix says, every block is different from the next.

I have been living in the area of 55th ave & indian school for 3 yrs . I have never had any problems and have never seen anything to crazy going on. I do occasionally see the police helicopter searching around but its not very frequent. I just bought a house in the 63rd ave and glenrosa area seems ok over there too. I notice more bad element near McDowell from 51st ave and east. Also just cause I don`t see it don`t mean its not happening.
