High Property Crime In Scottsdale..Why? (photo radar, high crime, neighborhoods)

Hi,

I've been looking at crime stats for Scottsdale, mainly N. Scottsdale, and they all conclude that property crime is above the national average in Scottsdale, including many parts of Northern Scottsdale. What's the reason for this? Are there enough officers out there? I know the dept has around 500 plus officers and some volunteers (whatever that's worth) for a population around 220,000. The department I worked at had around 620 F/T officers for a population under 200,000. The crime on avg there is a little below national avg.

The criminals go where the money flows. Lots of break-in's, and cars stolen.

Since about 3 years ago, the Scottsdale city government has really turned things into a traffic police state with the cops focusing all of their resources writing speeding tickets and DUIs. You can't go anywhere in Scottsdale anymore without seeing a cop with a radar gun sitting at a corner. That's definitely contributed hugely to the burglary problem in Scottsdale since police never patrol neighborhoods anymore. Auto break-ins are on the rise too - one friend of mine had her car broken into and my girlfriend had hers broken into twice, all in "nice" areas of town. There has also been a marked rise in armed robberies of businesses.

I'm sure another part of the issue is that you go only a couple miles down Bell Road from N Scottsdale and you're in the ghetto. Combine that close proximity with a weak police presence and you have the magic formula for high crime.

Cops will not act until someone reports an incident. I rarely see police around here unless to respond to a traffic incident or when a body has been found. Otherwise, they use photo radar to collect revenue and to control speeders.
