We are seriously thinking of moving to the Phoenix area. We came down in Feb and looked at a bunch of areas, Gilbert, Fountain Hills, Queens Creek, Cave something or other, etc.

The opportunity has come up again. I have friends that live in Gilbert and Glendale. Both rave about their communities.

I have several qualifications. I want to live in a good school district, be no more than 45 min from airport (preferrably less), live on boat-able water. Job location is not a concern.

We are looking in the mid 500k range. Which area would you recommend over the other and why?

Glendale but only because I hate Gilbert. $500k will get you a great house in northern Glendale.

You want to live on "boat-able" water? That would limit your choices in both areas, I would think, but your price range, if there are man-made boat-able lake subdivisions in either area (north Glendale would be the specific area on that side), should be fine.

Why one over the other? What are the positives and negatives of each?

Regarding Boat-able water - My absolute first choice would be to live on or by the ocean, but since this is Phoenix, the next best thing would be to live on the water. Kind of the best of both worlds.

not sure where the prices are now, but have you looked at arrowhead lakes? - i think 500k should be able to get you in there now

it's more floating than boating, but you can have a home on water and still be pretty close to lake pleasant for some bigger water
