Default Anyone have Pink Pony memories?

The Pink Pony in Old Town Scottsdale closed last week after being open since 1949. I only had the opportunity to go to this legendary place once, but I was impressed that it seemed liked a bit of history. I know many people who grew up here or went there years ago remembered it fondly. It's sad when these places close, only to make room for chain restaurants or "trendier" places.
Does anyone have any good Pink Pony stories to share?

I wrote a little tribute to it here if anyone wants to read more:
Scottsdale's landmark Pink Pony closes its doors

yeah - i had some friends visiting a couple years back and I talked them out of going to one of those trendier steak houses to try this bit of americana

big mistake - the food quality was poor, the place had permanent cigarette smell and the prices were right on par with much better options

i'm no so sorry it closed - i'm sorry that somewhere along the way it lost it's edge and quit being a high quality, throwback type environment that everyone talked about

I think it was not the same starting sometime after it moved from its original location. Back in its day, it was THE place to get a steak and be seen having one.

ate there a couple years ago to check out the old-school vibe....

years ago, it was a great place for the local Spring Training types to hang out at....as trendier places came, the ball players wanted to be seen at those spots...the Pony rested on its laurels too much and just became tired...it wasn't horrible, but just lost its following....the owner sat at the bar with a drink while the entertainer did his thing in the corner with recorded music....it was all very 50s.....

other old-style places are closing, too...El Chorro, Quilted Bear....just not the market now
