What are some of the best authentic Mexican restaurants in the Phoenix area? I'm coming out there in January and want to see how the food there is compared to where I live in NC. We have quite a bit of authentic Mexican food, given all the immigrants that live around my area. For example, check out this chimichanga. It's the best in Greensboro, NC (IMO). None of that salad and guacamole on top, just queso.

Pedro's in Glendale. Corn tamales are not to be missed.

My wife's grandma's house.

But beyond that, Rio Mirage Cafe in El Mirage and Valley Luna in Phoenix are ok. I'm looking forward to discovering some better places, though.

Man, I do hate to burst your bubble, but Chimichangas are not AUTHENTIC Mexican food.

However to answer your question, Valle Luna is very good and also there is a place in Phoenix called Los Taqueria(probably not spelled right) that I hear has great AUTHENTIC Mexican.

Haha, you're right about chimmis, but I love them. Can't make them at home the way they do at the resturants.

There's at least 100 Mexican Food restaurants here better than anything in North Carolina. Ironically, I think the consensus top place is a place called "Carolina's" by the airport. Everyone has their favorites, though. Just depends on what part of town you're going to, and people can give you recommendations.
