That's how I know.

I have no prejudice against Fashion Square. I order most of my clothes online from foreign designers, but every now and then I will go to one of the upscale stores at local for a quick pair of shoes or a tie.
A large percentage of people who shop at FS don't even live in Scottsdale. You really have no specific idea about the shoppers there and why they are there, or what their balance sheet says. You are playing to the stereotype of Scottsdale, which is just that... there are materialistic snobs in every city, and all over this Valley, and there are a lot of pretty regular neighborhoods in Scottsdale.

There are MANY people in foreclosure not just in your neighborhood, but in neighborhoods all over the Valley that aren't the stereotyped Scottsdale you describe at all.

And you buy all your clothes from foreign designers, and shop occasionally at "upscale" local stores in your Scottsdale neighborhood. Sounds like you might fit one of your own stereotypes.

I'd bet that once inside, you won't even know you are in a "mall"

I couldn't bring myself to pay $78 for a steak no matter where it's sold. That includes Kobe beef in Japan where I've been and had the chance to try and took a pass. I suppose that there will always be those to who flex jet shares are as ordinary as flying coach is to most of us. Those who read Robb Report for shopping ideas (not in our dentist's waiting room to pass the time) think nothing of dropping two or three C-notes on a meal out. BTW: there are some affordable items sold in Scottsdale Fashion Square - items like replacement watch batteries and socks. The comments about Godiva chocolate are right on. You can get better chocolate for half the price easy. (c:

This is what I alluded to in my initial point. We have made a complete circle. I am very familiar of the foreclosure situation that has happened around the Valley.

Exactly. Most areas of the Valley are in a worse foreclosure situation than Scottsdale. Yet shoppers from those areas continue to pour in.

That article is stupid becuase it doesn't tell the whole story, I'm sure on purpose, to get a reaction out of people.

Like Cafe Lux at Fashion Square, there is an entrance directly off the parking lot and not from inside the mall like they are making it sound. A better description would be that the restaurant is attached to the mall, not inside it. It's not like it's in the food court next to Dairy Queen and Subway.

You know, I have been to Fashion Square a few times since I moved here and I think it's a beautiful mall and it's not super-expensive as some like to make it. Yes, they DO have the high end stores, but I'm not talking about those. I could go to Macy's, walk on over to Gamestop, eat at the food court, etc. and the prices seem like many other malls I have been to...

I talked to a colleague this morning. He was at the restaurant last night. Said it was, in his words - "Fantastic".

And this is a guy who is tight with a buck - says he WILL go back - very soon.

If you have the discretionary income, sometimes it's nice. Currently I do not have the dinero to go to those places. My red wine is $1.99 Trader Joes these days. In the not-to-distant past I would treat friends to a steak dinner and wine. Sometimes splitting the bill. The bills of three of those dinners between 3/4 people have been $800, $400 and $550. Sometimes you should indulge. My credit card debt is less than 1% of my net worth, so no problem there.

I love TJ's (but my how their prices have rose since the good old days). Been a TJ's fan since my wife worked at their store in Atwater/Silverlake area of LA. Have you been to a "Fresh & Easy"? I've been hearing about there move to the USA for years. Wondering what their prepared foods are like?
