The times I've run an ad soliciting to rent a room in my house, posting the ad in the local Mexican newspapers, and it states: Call Mike, invariably they call and pronounce my name Mee-kay or mee-keh. I in spanish has the ee sound.

The j's and g's can really throw you off, with the h sounds. Hah-pahn for Japan. Volkswagen (Bolks-wah-hehn) Jetta (heh-tah).

But give credit where credit is due, they're speaking English!

Maybe that is why I don't understand many Hispanics from other places in English or Spanish. Sometimes I just stare at them like a deer in headlights...

And yeah! The j or g or y can sound all sorts of ways in Spanish depending on regional dialects. The y can sound like yo or jo... like ya or ja...LOL!
