I'm looking to buy a digital camera here soon. This would be strictly for personal/hobby use. Basically, I want to be able to take "good" pictures for use on things like Flickr and a potential blog, but do not require a "professional" look.
Budget is important as I am a full time student. Would prefer to keep the price around $200-$250 but I don't know the first thing about cameras really, so I have no idea if that is a reasonable expectation.
There are plenty of options from the point and shoot world for $250 or less. But, IMO, you could also explore something I usually recommend (and use personally): A used Sony NEX. You may find one with kit zoom for $300 or less.
Sony NEX is series of compact, mirror-less, interchangeable lens cameras with APS-C sensor (most DSLRs use the same size). These cameras are very small and light for the size of the sensor they contain. The 3-series is what you may want to look at (if you really get lucky, you may find NEX-5N, which is a superb camera, especially for its low light performance).
You can also choose to get a few very cheap lenses to expand your horizon, and really get into the wonderful world of manual photography. With NEX, you can use pretty much any old lens out there and a lot of them cost less than $50.
You have lots of options in your price range but if you want to do more why not get a DSLR? I have a Nikon D3100 which is an entry level but it takes amazing photos for my real estate business, photo contests and I have gallery where I have blown up and framed some nice shots. Have a look online for camera deals. I found Cameta camera where I bought some accesories and a zoom lens. They have factory refurbished cameras and packages at really nice prices. Check them out.
Calling all photographers! What camera would you buy? Thank you.
I would like to be able to take pictures at an event, birthday party, wedding, concert, etc. And I would like to be able to capture the smiles, the gesture, the "moment" etc. And not have to wait for the camera to take the picture.
I have had cameras that tend to freeze before taking the next picture. So, I miss out on the "moment"
So, what camera should I buy? Please give me your ideas & what price I should look for. Also, based on your tip, how long should I expect it to last? Thanks so much for your help.
