We have lived here on Long Island for almost 40 years. Although we have always fed the birds and have seen many varieties of them,
this afternoon was a first for us, when we were visited by about a dozen Parrots! While most of them remained in the tree outside of our house,
a few of them were brave enough to fly down to our feeder and enjoy the sunflower seeds that are a favorite of the Cardinals and the Bluejays
who often feed here. I guess that when you consider that there's a first time for everything, to find Parrots stopping by in December, may not be
as strange as it initially seemed, even in 38 degree weather! I looked them up online and it appears that they are Conures, perhaps Quaker Conures
who are able to survive the cold weather by making their nests among the transformers atop of the telephone poles, where they are heated by the
electric current.
