I know in many states that calling 911 from a cell phone gets you the closest 911 center, but in some it may not, especially if your number isn't local. What happens in Pittsburgh?

It connects you to the nearest 911 control center according to the cell tower you are using at the moment .

I have no idea, but a lot of cities have seven digit numbers that plug you into their 911 system. I checked online, but I've found that most often phone numbers are hard to find online, so check your local phone book. (Out here government offices are always in the "Blue Pages" of the White Pages)

Out here in California, a cell phone 911 gets you California Highway Patrol...

Obviously you would have to give the 911 operator you're exact location though.

Depending on your phone and carrier, they may actually use radiolocation or GPS to locate you.

They will ask for your exact location because they know it's a cell number...been there, done it. This was with a non-412 area code cell number too.

I'm sure they will ask, but if for some reason you can't answer, they may be able to locate you anyway.

I have an out-of-state cellphone number and when I called 911 to report an accident I saw in the city it connected me to Allegheny 911.
