We had Bank of America in California and DC, but they are not located anywhere in Pittsburgh. Citibank has no branches in Pittsburgh either.

We chose PNC because we could tie our accounts to "cafeteria cash" at Pitt and Penn State, where we work. Other Pittsburgh banks include Citizens Bank, Dollar Bank, and National City Bank. Folks may have opinions on these as well.

We just moved from Canonsburg to Charlotte. We moved out to Canonsburg 5 years ago from Philly where we grew up. Canonsburg is older and does appear depressed a bit. I used to say the city itself (the borough) looked dirty. However there are lots of new housing going up which is where we bought and they are fixing up Pike St. which is the main street going through the city. But, I have to tell you, moving from Philly to Canonsburg was culture shock. If you want to avoid Washinton County, which I would suggest because I thought I would go insane during the 5 short years we lived there, the busier, yet still really nice area's in Allegheny are Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebanon, and even Peters Township which is technically in Washington County but literally right over the county divide. Mt. Lebanon has big older homes and lots of small shops and boutiques, great restaurants and cafe's etc... and is a hop, skip and jump to the city. Now, for Pittsburgh. When we moved from Philly we were used to the city never sleeping etc... Pittsburgh, at least the center city part of it literally shuts down after work. However, there are bars, restaurants etc... along the river that stays open, and shadyside is an area you will definately have to check out. THere are also great places eat and shop in the strip district and Mt. Washington also delivers great restaurants that overlook the city. That will be more your speed. THere is also a casino going up in Pittsburgh that will spark some life into the city. Pittsburgh itself is a beautiful city, and I have to tell you, the people are rediculously friendly. THe only down side is the weather. Summer is nice, but winters are brutal and very, very long. It starts to get cold in October and expect it to stay that way well into April. Just this past Easter it snowed so hard we couldn't even see our neighbors behind us. If you can deal with that, you'll be fine. Im not that tolerant and we headed south. Good luck with your move and I hope you find an area that will make you happy.
