So as of Monday, they've had the light at the 40th Street Bridge on a full cycle versus on flash for the inbound commute. As a result, traffic has been paralyzed from Fox Chapel and before, all the way down to the 31st Street Bridge. This isn't normal stop and go traffic either, I'm taking people sitting still!

WHAT GIVES! I have a feeling they put that light on full cycle because the construction project / hillside digging has finally made it's way up toward the 40th Street Bridge. It took me almost a half hour just to get down to Etna from where I stopped at Fox Chapel. Radio traffic reports were reporting it was jammed from RIDC Park as this morning's rush went on! I bailed off at Etna and made my way over to the Parkway North and came into the city that way.

I really hope they don't plan on keeping that light on full cycle for long...otherwise I'm going back to taking the Parkway East. Anyone have any input?

Having the lights on constant flash doesn't allow those outbound motorists to make the right turn onto the 40th St. Bridge. They would have to fight their way in between the inbound turning traffic which can sometimes take minutes and lead to backlogs onto outbound 28. That would be my only guess.

They had it fixed this morning. The light was on flashing yellow. There was no congestion anywhere...just caught the occasional light at the 31st Street Bridge. That's more like it. Good job, PennDOT!
