Of course each trip has its own merits (e.g. MegaBus Route, convenient flight times, easy drive, etc.), but one doesn't stand out as a best option.
I would personally suggest Baltimore, Philly, or NYC due to the fact that driving through the mountains while the leaves are changing will be a scene "to die for." In any breath, they are all wonderful cities and I am sure that you will enjoy your trip wherever you choose. btw I am planning a daytrip for the fall as well, I am open for suggestions of fun places within driving distance of Pittsburgh

I was considering that, actually. I visited Baltimore around this time last year and it was really nice. Also, Annapolis is only about 40 minutes from Baltimore, which is awesome any time during the year, but I really like it during the fall.

Oh yes, Annapolis is a BEAUTIFUL city, perfectly positioned between Baltimore and DC, near the Chesapeake for boating along with being the capital of the state. I honestly plan on going to Annapolis again next time I am out that way
