The temperatures are due to drop into the thirties tonight, so say goodbye to your tender annuals. If you don't mind the rain, you can go cut a bouquet and enjoy some blooms indoors for a bit longer.

If you plan on overwintering any of your plants inside, be sure to pull them into the garage before tonight!

Heh, I try that every year. Some things that are not rated for this zone make it, and some don't. Have a couple of plants (not perennial here, they're rated for like Zone 8 or 9) that have lived 3 or 4 years now with winter in the garage (not heated) and a bit of water from time to time, and not that much light because the only windows in the garage face north. You never know.

We had frost last weekend - Saturday or Sunday, can't remember which. Just remember waking up and seeing frost on the grass.

That's what I'm hoping for. This time of year I actually welcome the first frost. Would like to have an "Indian Summer" after it, though...

Indian summer would be good, although I'll settle for above freezing and not raining. Lot of work left to do outside....

At the time I'm writing this, KDKA has "snow accumulation around an inch possible" in Friday night's forecast.

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTHWEST
PENNSYLVANIA...SOUTHWEST PENNSYLVANIA...WEST CENTRAL
PENNSYLVANIA...NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA AND NORTHERN PANHANDLE OF
WEST VIRGINIA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING FROM THE GULF STATES TO THE MID-
ATLANTIC WILL LEAD TO THE FIRST SNOWFALL OF THE SEASON. LIGHT
SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY.

THE LOW WILL PUSH NORTHEAST OF THE AREA WITH ANY LIGHT SNOW ENDING BY
THE AFTERNOON. WITH WARMER GROUND TEMPERATURES, ANY LIGHT ACCUMULATION
WILL BE LIMITED TO ELEVATED AND GRASSY SURFACES.
(Bold added)

When they forecast accumulations, it's from a meterologist's perspective. If it sticks anywhere, then that's how much it snowed, regardless of whether what landed on your driveway stayed, or melted on impact. We won't need snow tires tonight. But soon...
