The owner of Station Square is considering apartments for the retail and entertainment complex in the South Side. A 15-acre site to the east of the Smithfield Street bridge would be the area for an apartment complex, said Jeff Linton, a spokesman for the owner, Forest City Enterprise of Cleveland. The location is a parking lot but it has a few former bars, he said. No decision has been made on a timeline or the number of apartments, he said.

This is pretty great if it happens, although I think west of Smithfield would be better, if they could build up on top of that mostrosity of a "mall".

It's a pity that the Landmarks Building wasn't developed into apartments, like The Pennsylvanian, though I guess it is a lot smaller.

The mall at Station Square, the Freight House Shops, is an historic train shed. I think apartments on top of it would ruin the character of the building.

The Landmarks Building, BTW, wasn't developed into apartments, because no one wanted to live there 35 years ago when it was first redeveloped. Indeed, residential units, including the residential Wagner Hotel on the site of the Station Square LTR station were razed without a replacement at that point in time.

the "mall" has already destroyed the character of that building
