Sounds to me like Giant Eagle wanted to use it to advertise weekly specials or something. I am not keen on that idea.
That would have been a disaster

I really hope if they are keeping it up that the city makes some pretty strict regulations about what and how something can be advertised on it.

It should not simply become one of those digital LED screen billboards that show bright/gaudy adds on them all day and night. It is too prominent of a location and demands nothing less than a classy contextual renovation.

Maybe something like the old Westinghouse sign would be good. Trying to think of a local company with a logo that could be adapted to something similar.
Any ideas?

Eh, I'm too young to remember the Westinghouse sign. However, anything similar to the way Bayer advertised themselves would be fine, it did not distract at all from the great views that were around it.

I'd be fine to go back to the days when Alcoa just had a gigantic digital clock on that sign.

The Bayer sign was useful in my youth as a good way to keep an eye on the time when waiting for the bus at the Hilton late in the evening after my afterschool job at Palmer's.

Don't you miss those days? Young, working late, very structured, and, in retrospect, life was SIMPLE! Your post just set off a wave of reminisce.

Way off topic - Yac is on yellow alert!

And when I was a kid and it was the Alcoa sign, we could see it from our hilltop neighborhood and knew to come in when the clock showed 7.
