I started this topic a bit late this summer due to the consistency of 90°+ temperatures in the Northeast and Midwest through the month of June. Since there appears to be a break from the heat now and in the near future, I decided to tally everything up today. In future updates, I will include this summer's weather observations from Milwaukee, WI as well, but right now I'm too lazy to do it after four hours of typing and formatting. So here's the breakdown of the summer of 2012 so far (as of July 8)...

NOTE: Future updates will take place after a heat wave has run its course, or on the first of the month, whichever comes first. If a heat wave carries over from the end of one month to the beginning of the next, then the update that would have taken place on the first of the month will instead take place after the heat wave has run its course. Monthly and seasonal precipitation totals and departures from normal will only be updated on the first of each month.

This is a nice illustration of why I am not at all kidding when I say I prefer the climate here to the climate in DC.

Try arguing this with the people who only see cloudy days as why they hate our weather. I'll gladly take the clouds if it will keep us a few degrees cooler. It's pretty sad though we are still one of the "cool" spots despite all the heat we've had. Maybe we will get lucky for the rest of the summer and not add many more 90+ days.

This thread would also be good to post on the General U.S. forum as well.

For ****s and giggles, here's the breakdown of this summer where I live now (as of July 8)...

Athens, GA
90° (April 30)
91° (May 5)
91° (May 24)
94° (May 25)
94° (May 26)
90° (May 27)

95° (June 23)
94° (June 24)
94° (June 25)
90° (June 27)
99° (June 28)
109°* (June 29)
107° (June 30)
108° (July 1)
93° (July 2)
99° (July 3)
98° (July 4)
100° (July 5)
99° (July 6)
97° (July 7)

90° days: 26
95° days: 10
100° days: 4
Maximum: 109°* (June 29)

First 90° day: April 30
Last 90° day: July 7

(*: Denotes a historic maximum temperature.)

May precipitation: 2.67"
May departure from normal: -0.33"
June precipitation: 2.95"
June departure from normal: -1.23"
May-June precipitation: 5.62"
May-June departure from normal: -1.56"

And 90° days typically don't become scarce here until late September, so there's still 12 weeks left of heat.

It would be interesting if you would add the computed HEAT INDEX to your data. That would show the relative difference in comfort level between cities.
